The 8th President’s Centennial Dinner to be held at Taj Falaknuma Palace – one of the finest palaces in India

Union members and benefactors will join distinguished and high-level guests to attend the 8th President’s Centennial Dinner at the Taj Falaknuma Palace – one of the finest palaces in India – on the eve of the 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health.

Located 2,000 feet above the city of Hyderabad, the Taj Falaknuma Palace is described as “a jewel amongst the clouds”. This splendid palace was built in 1894 by Sir Viqar-ul-Umra, the Prime Minister of Hyderabad, in a classical style from Italian marble. It has hosted royalty and dignitaries from all over the globe throughout its rich history, including King George V, Queen Mary, Edward VIII and Tsar Nicholas II and is a fitting place to mark The Union's 99th year.

The annual dinner is part of The Union’s broader fundraising campaign in the build up to the organisation’s centennial year in 2020. The Centennial Campaign will support The Union’s ongoing work -- to combat some of the world’s biggest killers including TB, HIV and tobacco use. All campaign contributions will help The Union continue this fight to improve people's lives around the world.

The Union’s work on the ground has real and measurable impact:

  • In India Project Axshya has facilitated the identification and testing of 2 million presumptive TB patients, resulting in more than a hundred thousand patients being diagnosed with TB;
  • Through its Integrated HIV Care programme, The Union Office in Myanmar currently treats 32,000 people for HIV;
  • An active screening campaign in Zimbabwe ensured that 48,000 high-risk Zimbabwe residents were screened for TB over the course of a year.
  • In a single year, The Union conducted 114 research studies in 32 countries and published 150 research and opinion papers in peer reviewed journals.

The Centennial Campaign provides the vital support The Union needs to continue this work.

This year’s dinner will be hosted by Union President Dr Jeremiah Chakaya Muhwa and promises to be one of the most significant events to date. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception and dinner in this exclusive venue.

Early booking is advised. Reserve your place at the dinner.
